HISTORICAL REVIEW

In the decade of the 70s, through a trade agreement Cuba exported to laboratories MERIUX in France 40 tons of human placenta at the same time Dr. Carlos Miyares Cao specialist in Gynecology and Pharmacology, School of Medicine of University of Havana discovered a substance with stimulating activity of the pigmentation of the skin, studying the metabolism of placentas kept alive in laboratory conditions.

The successful use of that substance in Cuba in the treatment of skin disease known as vitiligo determined that in the years (1980) - (1982) were suspended the placenta exports to France when started in the national pharmaceutical industry the production of the new drug known by the name Melagenina for distribution in pharmacies by prescription.

In 1985 it was necessary to create the first international service to patients with Vitiligo patients in the Central Clinic "Cira García" of Havana under the responsibility of Dr. Miyares, being such an influx of patients from countries near Cuba (Mexico, Venezuela, and Colombia) that leads to the establishment of the first system of health tourism through CUBATUR.

In 1986 as a result of the international repercussion of the new Cuban method of treatment of Vitiligo with a medicine obtained from human placenta, the State Council founded on April 25, Center of Histotherapy under the direction of Dr. Carlos Manuel Miyares Cao (1939-2015) with the aim of expanding this research.

In 1987 it is necessary to establish national and international clinical service of this Center due to the increase in the number of patients with Vitiligo from over 90 countries, requesting care in Cuba with the new drug; as well as to cover those affected by the disease in Cuba. From 1988 to 1991 begin to establish centers for the care of these patients in other countries, thus beginning the Melagenina export.

The medical staff at these centers were trained at the Placental Histotherapy Center to ensure that the application of the method achieve the same efficiency as in Cuba.

So were settled the centers of the Canary Islands (Spain), Republic of San Marino, Madrid, Spain; Brazil; Bogota, Colombia; Mexico City, Mexico; Lima, Peru; Nicaragua; Salvador; Entre Rios, Argentina; Kiev, Ukraine; Moscow and Petrograd in Russia; Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan; Riga, Latvia; Nigeria, Africa.

At this stage, 30 patient associations with Vitiligo called Friends Associations against Vitiligo, formed by sick people requesting the introduction of the Cuban drug in their respective countries were founded.

From 1992 to 1994 it appreciates the need to build a plant for the production of different medicines from human placenta, which is materialized in 1995. The area of the production plant comprises 26,000 m2 and consists essentially of two parallel buildings located in the municipality of La Lisa, near the town of Valle Grande in the province of Havana.

And not only it was produced Melagenina because the research conducted by Dr. Miyares Cao and his team at the Placental Histotherapy Center had achieved to obtain useful drugs for other diseases and cosmetics line very effectively to slow the cellular aging process :
